Britney Spears’ blood test allegedly came back negative for substance abuse which police initially believed was the cause of Britney’s behavior. Life & Style reports:
“Her blood test just came back, and, thank God, it was clean. There are no traces of drugs or alcohol of any kind,” a source close to the Spears family tells Life & Style.
This information jives with a comment TMZ made earlier today:
We've been reporting for several months now that Britney doesn't have a drug or alcohol problem -- that her instability is mental, not chemical. Well placed sources tell us what happened last night is not rooted in drugs, and that of late, her mental state has deteriorated to the point that what happened at her home was not unexpected.
So, to the family member that said “Thank God, it was clean.” You’re right. Thank God Britney Spears only held her kid hostage because she’s batshit insane and not because of drugs. Phew, what a relief. I mean, if it were drugs, then this whole thing might be a real disaster or something. Now it’s just another anecdote the Spears’ clan will laugh about over Easter: “Hey, remember when Britney had a standoff with the police? Ha ha! God, she’s a stitch!”
UPDATE: Michael Sands, a representative for Kevin Federline's lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan, just informed the media that Mark Kaplan feels it would be inappropriate to do any press today. Michael Sands said he couldn't comment on anything at this time. He also refused to confirm if the children are okay.

Britney Spears was placed on lockdown for a mental evaluation Friday after the pop star locked herself in a room with one of her children at her L.A. home and refused to hand him over to ex-husband Kevin Federline.
A source says it was the pop star’s court-appointed child monitor who called police. “She had already put Preston in the car when Britney locked herself in a room with Jayden,” says the source. “The cops came and got through the door and tied her down to a gurney.”
Spears, who according to police appeared to be “under the influence of an unknown substance,” was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where the source says she will be on a minimum of a 72-hour lock down for mental evaluation.
Spears, who has visitation rights with her two sons Preston, 2, and Jayden, 1, was scheduled to give the boys over to Federline at 7 p.m. Thursday.
According to police, officers responded around 8 p.m. to a call “about a custodial dispute regarding Britney Spears’s children,” says Los Angeles police Officer Jason Lee.
Nearly three hours later, police determined that a court order stated that the singer’s children, who were with Spears at the time, were supposed to be with Federline, and a transfer was arranged, according to Lee.
“While officers were on the scene, they observed Ms. Spears under the influence of an unknown substance,” Lee added.
LAPD called the incident an “ongoing investigation” and says, “for her own welfare, [Spears] was taken to the local hospital for treatment.”
Preston was taken to the hospital by Federline’s assistant, and Jayden was in the ambulance with the monitor, a source says, adding that the boys “won’t be back with [Spears] for a long time.” Federline took his sons home early Friday morning. Spears’s father Jaime remains at the hospital.
Meanwhile, Federline’s lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, is due in court at 8:30 a.m. to attempt to strip Spears of her visitation rights. Attorney Tara Scott from the law firm of Trope and Trope will represent Spears even though the firm has asked to withdraw as counsel.

Britney Spears’ custody standoff may be defined as a hostage situation that could result in her arrest. Officers rode in the ambulance with Britney which means she is technically in police custody. The seriousness of the matter involves the time she was alone with Jayden in the house. He was taken to the ER by the police and released a few hours ago to Kevin. Here’s OK! Magazine’s rundown of the events:
At some point, 2-year-old Sean Preston is removed from the house, leaving only little Jayden inside with his mother.
8 p.m.: The police are notified of a custodial situation at Britney's house and officers are dispatched to The Summit. But when they arrive, they find that the court-appointed monitor, who has been locked out of the house, is not in possession of the paperwork required to allow them to enter Britney's house.
9:20 p.m.: K-Fed's lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan arrives at The Summit with the required paperwork. He and five police cars enter the gated community and drive up to Britney's house.
10:30 p.m.: More than a dozen police officers, as well as two ambulances and a handful of fire rescue trucks are now on the scene. Sometime before 11 p.m., Britney's cousin Alli and Brit's assistant Carla leave the house, leaving Brit alone with Jayden James.
11:45 p.m.: Britney is taken out of her home strapped to a gurney and placed into an ambulance, which is escorted by 13 police cars with sirens blaring to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, arriving at approximately 12:30 a.m. Jayden is brought to the hospital in a separate vehicle.
Britney Spears is currently on 72-hour lockdown for mental observation where she will later be booked for “as-yet-unnamed offensives.” We all saw this day coming, but, I hope I speak for the rest of you, nobody wanted to see a toddler held hostage then watch the police kick in the door and strap his mom to a gurney. So I’m going to put the snark on the back burner for a minute. But, don’t worry, Kevin’s lawyers are already meeting with the judge and I’m sure the end result will be rife with folly. If not, I’ll make a joke about my penis.

Add Wesley to the voices praising "There Will Be Blood" and Daniel Day-Lewis to the skies -- of the actor's performance as a monomaniacal oilman, Wes writes "He's the smoke, the ash, the lava, and the volcano." That sounds about right. This isn't an easy movie, and some of the best things in it are also the screwiest, but it feels absurdly alive while you're watching it, and how many films can you say that about anymore?
If you want something easier and more inspirational -- but good -- there's Denzel Washington's "The Great Debaters" (starring Denzel, Forest Whitaker, and a young actor improbably named Denzel Whitaker -- no relation to either, apparently). If you really want blood, there's "Sweeney Todd." And don't forget Julian Schnabel's rapturously beautiful "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly" at the Coolidge, the Kendall, and the West Newton.
"Black Narcissus" is playing at the Brattle tonight -- only one of the most gobsmackingly gorgeous color movies of all time, co-directed by the great Michael Powell and with Oscar-winning cinematography by Jack Cardiff. And, yes, it's about sexual repression among a group of British nuns in the Himalayas. The scene in which Kathleen Byron puts on lipstick (above) remains one of the great creeporama moments in classic cinema. Seriously, you need to see this puppy on a big screen.
Tomorrow (Saturday the 5th), the Brattle switches gears and hosts a Monty Python festival. What, the curtains?
Also tomorrow, the MFA rescreens Sergei Bondarchuk's massive 1968 adaptation of "War and Peace" -- all four parts and 484 minutes of it. The marathon begins at 10:30 a.m. and is well worth clearing out your calendar for. Think of it as the Iron Man competition of movies.

Britney Spears was strapped to a gurney and taken from her home after a custody standoff with the police and local fire department. The police are saying Britney was under the influence of an unknown substance when she refused to allow her children to leave her house with Kevin Federline's bodyguard. The Associated Press reports:
Officers were called to Spears' house around 8 p.m. to respond to the custody dispute with ex-husband Kevin Federline over their sons, 2-year-old Sean Preston and 1-year-old Jayden James, Lee said.
By about 10:30 p.m., six police cars, two ambulances and a fire truck had entered the gated-community that includes Spears' house. Several police cars were seen in the area earlier in the night.
Spears turned over the children around 10:50 p.m., Lee said.
TMZ is reporting that Kevin’s lawyers are meeting with the judge this morning to strip Britney of her visitation rights. She is currently on “5150 hold” at Cedars-Sinai hospital which means there is evidence that Britney is a danger to herself and others.
UPDATE: Us Magazine has a time line of Britney's meltdown. She's being treated at the hospital as a "special needs" patient which indicates indicates either an overdose or suicide attempt.

Britney Spears was rushed to a Los Angeles hospital over night after police were called to her Studio City home.
At around 8 p.m. police responded to a call “about a custodial dispute regarding Britney Spears’s children,” said LAPD officer Jason Lee.
Nearly three hours later, police determined that a court order stated that the singer’s children, who were with Spears at the time, were supposed to be with Kevin Federline, and a transfer was arranged, according to Lee.
“While officers were on the scene, they observed Ms. Spears under the influence of an unknown substance,” Lee added. “She is now being taken in for an evaluation, more than likely to a hospital. There were no reported injuries to anyone involved including the children.”
In addition to multiple officers, fire trucks, two ambulance and a police helicopter were all on the scene. At one point, Spears was seen being taken to an ambulance on a gurney.
After Spears arrived at the hospital, her father, Jamie, and her ex, Federline – as well as both of her sons – were spotted there. A source confirms that the boys were not being treated for any injuries.
Spears, who has visitation rights with her two sons Preston, 2, and Jayden, 1, was scheduled to give the boys over to Federline at 7 p.m. Thursday. A bodyguard for Federline arrived to pick up the boys at the designated time, but Spears refused to relinquish her sons, according to a source.
Police – as well as Federline’s lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan – arrived at the house close to 8 p.m., though Kaplan was later seen leaving.
Earlier in the day, Spears showed up 90 minutes late to a scheduled deposition in her custody case – and stayed for only a fraction of an hour.
Back at her Studio City home directly after the hearing, when a photographer asked if Kaplan was nice to her, Spears, 26, responded with an emphatic, “No!”
When reached, Spears’s lawyer Sorrell Trope, who on Wednesday filed a request to withdraw from the singer’s custody case, said only: “No comment.”

Australian pop star Natalie Imbruglia and her rocker husband Daniel Johns announced their separation in a joint statement Friday.
“While we are very sad that our marriage has ended, we want to make it clear that our parting is amicable and we remain friends,” the statement read, noting that the decision has not been made “lightly or quickly.”
The “Torn” singer, 32, and Silverchair frontman, 28, had been together since 1999. The split comes just days after their fourth anniversary: They wed on New Year’s Eve in 2003 at the Thala Beach Lodge, an exclusive resort on Australia’s northeastern coast. (According to media reports, guests included singer Kylie Minogue, actor Guy Pearce and Virgin mogul Richard Branson.)
However, their work commitments often kept them apart, with Imbruglia based in London while Johns toured frequently in Australia and North America.
“Our career demands and our lives in different parts of the world have brought us to the point where unfortunately this difficult decision was necessary,” they said in the statement. “We have simply grown apart.”
The two musicians – tabloid darlings in their native Australia – also vowed that their breakup would not play out in the media. “We will not be making any further public statements whatsoever in regard to this very private matter,” the statement read. “[We] politely ask that people respect our sincere wishes in this regard.”

Filed under: Drama, Music & Musicals, Deals, RumorMonger, Celebrities and Controversy, Celebrities Gone Wild! Producer Gary Hamilton, mostly known for direct-to-video crap although he also produced the stellar Aussie horror film Wolf Creek, recently chatted with Page Six about his upcoming film Dare to Love Me, starring Lindsay Lohan, and apparently production on that film has been postponed at the zero hour before cameras were about to roll. "I'm not sure the movie is going to go immediately," he confessed to the gossip rag, while deflecting the obvious question about whether insuring star Lohan was the financial hurdle he couldn't get over. "There's no problem with Lindsay from our perspective," he said. "It's financing the film, which is a separate issue." I wouldn't necessarily take him at his word on that, since even at this stage of the game he couldn't afford to be perceived as slamming his star in the press and it makes too much sense to assume insurance companies balked at backing Lohan, who was spotted chugging champagne as recently as this past weekend.
On the other hand, one look at the movie's bio will make you think that no one would finance this thing if it had Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie attached. The seemingly ill-conceived period piece follows "tango legend Carlos Gardel" who falls in love with a prostitute and gets shot in the lung, but still "seduces crowds with his enchanting voice, bringing Tango music as a liberating voice to Europe." It's being directed by Alfonso Arau, the guy who hit us over the noggin with A Walk in the Clouds back in 1995, and was only recently released from director's jail for that crime. Stay tuned to Cinematical for the latest twists and turns in Lohan's career rollercoaster ride. Permalink | Email this | Comments
