From the Editor’s Desk: I Feel Like a Naked Lindsay Lohan

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

So last night I found out my identity was stolen. And not just by some kid who saw a number -- I'm talking a calculated group of thieves snatched up everything on me and used it to go to town. It's times like these where I wish I could kick ass like Jason Bourne; I wish I could hunt down these awful awful people one by one and force them to watch The Hottie or the Nottie for 17 days straight, non-stop. If you've never had your ID stolen, it sort of feels like being raped by the devil. I feel violated, I feel alone, and I feel like I need a hug. Actually, I feel like a naked Lindsay Lohan -- all doped up, looking for help, but not really sure where to begin or how to pick up the broken pieces.

And you think to yourself -- why would someone do this? Why are there people in the world who feed off screwing up other people's lives. And these people probably have families and friends -- some of whom may or may not know what's going on behind closed doors. Heck, some of them may even read Cinematical when they're not selling your social security number on the internet. And if you are reading this, Mr. or Mrs. Identity Thief, I want you to know that you haven't crushed my dreams of posing naked for Vanity Fair or New York Magazine at some point down the line. That will happen! Just not today. Because I've been on the phone with the bank wishing you a long and painful death.

But hey, we're live-blogging the Oscars this Sunday night! So check out how we're preparing for the big night right ... over ... here.

Making the Rounds at General Hospital – Abused and Confused

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

Marrianna and Claudia are victims. Lulu doubts Logan is the TMK.
So we saw a new theme pop up in yesterday's episode of General Hospital. Both Marianna and Claudia are abused women. Marianna was illegally brought into this country by her jerk of an ex-boyfriend who's been knocking her around ever since. Claudia, it would seem from her memory flashes, was molested by her psycho-pop. The realization sort…

Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt: The Video Game

Thursday, February 21st, 2008
Thumbnail image for 0215_heidi_montag_vday_06.jpg Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt apparently have a video game in the works. You get to play as Hollywood's most retarded couple! OMG! Spencer promises it'll be addicting and out in time for Christmas 2009. Us Magazine has the details:
“You can definitely play as us or you can play against us,” Pratt said. “You can even torture me.”
He said “there's going to be two versions: the adult version and the one for minors,” adding, “just be ready, that's all I have to say.”
If this game lets me live out my fantasy of driving a tank into Spencer's face while I box Heidi's fake breasts, put me down for ten copies. I'll be giving these bad boys out to my loved ones. Merry Christmas, Grandma! Let's bake cookies then play baseball with Spencer's head. Just ignore what my character is doing with Heidi. Mmm, that's good holiday cheer.

Best Picture marathon — Are you man enough?

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

So you still haven't seen "There Will Be Blood" or "Atonement" and you have to fill out your office Oscar ballot. If the filing deadline is Sunday, you're in luck: AMC Theatres is hosting a nationwide Best Picture nominee marathon on Saturday, starting with "Michael Clayton" at 11 in the morning and ending 12 hours and 25 minutes later with the closing credits of "No Country for Old Men." (Presumably "Juno" will be showing early enough for the pregnant-teenager crowd.)

The catch is that in the Boston area you have to go to Methuen or Framingham. Because, you know, those Boston Common playdates of Larry the Cable Guy's "Witless Protection" are just too precious to lose. Still, $30 gets you all five movies ($6 a pop, a steal) and there are free popcorn refills all day long. You might want to sneak in some carbs, though, and maybe some Zoloft -- this is one seriously depressing bunch of movies.

The Dirty Truth About ‘Fanboys’

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

Here's the Fanboys synopsis currently up on IMDb: "Star Wars" fans travel to Skywalker Ranch to steal an early copy of "Episode I: The Phantom Menace" for their dying friend."

Problem is, that's not the movie everyone will see when it eventually hits theaters. There's been a ton of talk surrounding the Fanboy re-cuts; how the cancer storyline was taken out, how Kyle Newman was replaced as director, and how the Weinsteins have pretty much turned Fanboys into a completely different film from what was originally intended. Yesterday, fans wrote into AICN claiming to have donated props for the film, and were upset over all these changes. So upset they were starting a campaign against The Weinstein Co., hoping to get Newman's original cut released instead of this new one.

Thanks to a well-placed, super delegate secret spy source, Cinematical was able to get the real skinny on what was going on with Fanboys. Some of this info is new, some old, but I have confirmed all of it to be true. First off, Kyle Newman definitely was replaced as director for the re-shoots by Steve Brill (Without a Paddle). The "dying of cancer" storyline was completely dumped, and, instead, the fanboys are now trying to sneak a copy of Phantom Menace simply because they're fans and want to see it. According to my source, the story is now "disjointed, nonsensical and lacking any heart."

Oh, there's more ...

8. The Bucket List – $4.7M

Thursday, February 21st, 2008
IN THEATRES DECEMBER 25, 2007 (Limited) In THE BUCKET LIST, cancer doesn't discriminate in its choice of victims. It?s equally eager in its attacks on kindly sage of a mechanic Carter Chambers (Morgan Freeman) and mean-spirited millionaire Edward Cole (Jack Nicholson). When the unlikely pair shares a room at a hospital, they learn that they both have less than a year to live as a result of the deadly disease. Inspired by the words of a college professor, Carter begins to make a "bucket list" of things he wants to accomplish before he dies. With Edward's limitless funds at their disposal, the men embark on an adventure that takes them from Egypt to France to Hong Kong, crossing items off their list as death grows closer. Fans of the leading actors will be glad to see them in familiar territory: Freeman plays a narrator who's nearly godlike in his omniscience, while Nicholson stars as the lovable grump. Both men have won Oscars for similar roles (Nicholson for AS GOOD AS IT GETS, and Freeman for MILLION DOLLAR BABY), so they excel in these parts. Director Rob Reiner's career has jumped between comedy and drama, and despite its serious subject matter, THE BUCKET LIST resides firmly in comedic territory. But fans of weepies such as TERMS OF ENDEARMENT and MY LIFE will find much to like in this film that is sure to require a tissue or two.

9. Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour – $4.4M

Thursday, February 21st, 2008
Based on the hit Disney television show, HANNAH MONTANA/MILEY CYRUS: BEST OF BOTH WORLDS CONCERT TOUR 3-D provides dedicated fans an all-access pass to the Best of Both Worlds concert tour. Leaving behind character Miley Stewart, the concert instead splits time between pop phenom Hannah Montana and Cyrus, who assumes the role of Montana's "ordinary girl" alter ego. Footage of the concert is interspersed with numerous behind-the-scene vignettes. Among these are pre-tour rehearsals--orchestrated by HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL impresario Kenny Ortega--and a touching jam session with father Billy Ray Cyrus. Also included are ecstatic fan testimonials and the film's most humorous moment, in which fathers race each other in high-heeled shoes for the chance to win concert tickets and backstage passes. Montana/Cyrus is joined on stage by the Jonas Brothers, who whip up the crowd with their own brand of high-energy pop. The film employs most of its 3-D tricks in the opening credits then pulls back the reins to focus on giving viewers the next best thing to actually being at the show. Filled with fist-pumping anthems ("Girls Night Out," "Nobody's Perfect," and the title track), BEST OF BOTH WORLDS remains true to the television show's dual personality theme: through good times and bad, every girl is her own superstar. For fans and parents alike, it's a wholesome and empowering message wrapped up in pure infectious fun.
