A so-so creature effort makes a splash in HD.
Featuring some of the more visually stunning dragons ever put on film, Reign of Fire is a slight misfire as a movie, but a nice piece to sit back and fast forward through to see the action scenes. Reign does deliver on its promises, however briefly, although at times it’s fair to feel cheated.A nearly unrecognizable Matthew McConaughey stars…

Blu-ray Review: Reign of Fire
Sunday, February 3rd, 2008Movie Review: The Eye (2008)
Sunday, February 3rd, 2008How trustworthy are your eyes? Can you believe all that you see?
Back in the early years of this decade the Pang brothers, Danny and Oxide, were riding high on the success of a pair of Thai films, Bangkok Dangerous and Bangkok Haunted. On the basis of those theatrical hits, the twins took to their native Hong Kong and delivered the creepy horror film called Gin gwai. The film proved to be a hit and went on to…
DVD Review: Blue Murder, Set Two
Sunday, February 3rd, 2008A new boxed set of a series yet to be broadcast in the U.S. proves a treat for lovers of well-wrought British police dramas.
I first noticed Caroline Quentin as the female Watson in the comic British mystery series, Jonathan Creek, a role she inhabited so distinctly that when she left the show and was replaced by Ab Fab's Julia Sawalha, it never quite recovered. In Blue Murder, an ITV series currently being released in its second DVD boxed set via Acorn Media,…
DVD Review: Feast of Love
Sunday, February 3rd, 2008Although there are a few cliché moments, this story has enough depth to be watched more than once.
Put nine people in a room together and ask them their philosophy on love and you're bound to get nine different opinions where some mutually meld and others are miles apart. That's what happens in Feast of Love, a story based on a novel by Charles Baxter about love of a spouse, friend or child.Harry Stevenson (Morgan Freeman) is a professor…

A glowing Angelina Jolie kept her baby bump hidden at the Santa Barbara Film festival on Saturday.
The actress/humanitarian, accompanied by life partner Brad Pitt, was honored with the 'Outstanding Performance Award' for her role in A Mighty Heart.
She was robbed of an Oscar nomination, dangit!

Movie Review: The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
Sunday, February 3rd, 2008Not since Francis Ford Coppola?s masterpiece, Apocalypse Now, have I been so utterly assaulted by a film.
Not since Francis Ford Coppola’s masterpiece, Apocalypse Now, have I been so utterly assaulted by a film. The Diving Bell and the Butterfly is a brilliant, uncomfortable, and unrelenting portrayal of the hellish fate of Jean-Dominique Bauby, the 43-year-old editor of Elle magazine. Bauby’s glamourous life screeches to a halt after he…
Her Face Is Tighter Than Hannah Montana’s Anus!

We're not sure what she's doing, but it's working!
A wrinkle-free Rachel Zoe was spotted at the Erin Fetherston after party this past weekend. Sadly, we didn't run into the celebrity stylist during our brief trip to NY fashion week.
We'd love to ask her what she did or is doing to her face.
We need to do that when we're really old and in our 50s, like her!

Britney Spears’s Life Inside the Hospital
Sunday, February 3rd, 2008
Britney Spears’s 72-hour psychiatric hold at the UCLA Medical Center has expired as of Sunday morning – but the singer is still hospitalized.
Legal analysts say either her psychiatrist requested an additional 14-day hold, or Spears is staying voluntarily on a day-to-day basis.
What is life like for Spears at the Stewart & Lynda Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA? According to the patient’s bill of rights at the hospital, she is allowed to wear her own clothes and keep her own personal possessions, including toiletries. She may also see visitors every day and make and receive phone calls – but not on her personal cell phone. There are pay phones on the floor.
There are two wings at the hospital, separated by a kitchen/dining room. Patients sometimes mix, especially for smoke breaks out on the deck, which is gated and surrounded by a metal fence.
The average patient sees his or her attending doctor every day. Since UCLA is a teaching hospital, the attending doctors are often accompanied by students. Staffers check on patients at least once an hour, even during the night.
‘It’s a Terrible Situation’
The Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital is known as one of the top facilities of its kind; still, “It is a terrible situation,” says a source close to the Spears family. “Britney is in a padded room. Her family is so worried about her.”
Terry K. Wasserman, a veteran L.A. attorney specializing in mental health cases (who’s not involved in the Spears matter), explains that if a patient becomes combative, he or she “could be placed in a ‘quiet room,’ some of which are padded.”
Wasserman adds: “Another possibility is being confined to a bed by leather restraints. In extreme, life-threatening situations – when the patient is a threat to oneself or medical staff – a psychiatrist can inject a person with psychiatric medication.”
In addition, Wasserman says, “a doctor can force a patient to take prescribed medication. If he or she resists taking the meds, the psychiatrist can obtain authorization to forcefully medicate the person – but only after a hearing on the matter takes place.”

Katharine McPhee Marries Producer Boyfriend
Sunday, February 3rd, 2008
Singer-actress Katharine McPhee married producer Nick Cokas on Saturday in Beverly Hills, her rep Justin Gray Stone confirms.
The 23-year-old American Idol season five runner-up and Cokas, 42, exchanged vows in a late afternoon ceremony at Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church.
“(Nick) is the love of my life,” McPhee gushed. “This is a once in a lifetime occasion and everything is just perfect.”
McPhee wore a strapless ivory Manuel Mota gown and Neil Lane jewels (diamond and platinum chandelier earrings and diamond and platinum bracelets), while Cokas wore an Armani tuxedo. Fellow season five Idol contestants Kellie Pickler and Mandisa were among the 305 guests on hand for the nuptials.
McPhee and Cokas met in 2005 when they performed in a Los Angeles theater production of The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. Their union began as a friendship and blossomed when McPhee auditioned for American Idol later that year.
The two quietly got engaged last year when Cokas presented her with a custom-designed round brilliant cut platinum and diamond engagement ring.
McPhee recently wrapped filming the Anna Faris comedy I Know What Boys Like.
