Shilo’s Scion Deviants
Monday, June 25th, 2007Shilo continues its blitz of new motion work with this spot done for ATTIK’s brand new campaign for Scion entitled “Little Deviant”. A very dark and entertaining spot based around “little deviants” that wreak havok on a city full of conforming characters called “sheeple”. A great and twisted spot, in fact, its a wonder that it made it out into the commercial world without getting too lightened up.
There is also a great site, www.littledeviant.com, where you can find more of the story behind the Book of Deviants and torment the sheeple further.
Raquel Falkenbach updates
Monday, June 25th, 2007
Raquel Falkenbach, previously part of Nakd (2003-2004) and Lobo (2005-2006) has recently updated her site with a lot of new work. The majority of the new projects being showcased are very unique to her style and are a great source for inspiration. There is certainly a lot of A-list work being done by Falkenbach.
Falkenbach has also recently created Matilda, under which she directs projects with fellow designer/director, Renato Ferro. I cannot understand much of what is actually written on Falkenbach’s site, or Matilda, but in any regard, the work speaks for itself.
MAKE: new reel and new project, Headlock
Monday, June 25th, 2007Pic Pic Andre
Saturday, June 23rd, 2007I saw the work of this French stop-motion artist awhile back when his first short ‘Panique Au Village’ made its rounds, and I instantly loved it. The quirky characteristics of the animation are hard to mistake with any other stop motion I’ve ever seen and I love the use of miniature figurines that I remember from yester-year. Recently, two spots were done for Cravendale milk, which are equally as entertaining as the two ‘Panique Au Village’ shorts. Curiously, they all contain a trio of lead characters, consisting of two typecast males and a large barn animal, either a cow or a horse. And they always live together and sleep in the same room. Funny. Funny weird, or funny haha? Both? Definitely funny-haha.
Check it out. Nexus Productions is an assembly of multiple directors that create alot of work that we are very familiar with. The site is flash so I have to link to saved favorites containing Pic Pic Andre’s work. When you view one, just click back to ‘my favorites’ to access the others. Hopefully it works, if not, just find Pic Pic Andre in the directors list.
Justin Harder
Saturday, June 23rd, 2007This may be old news to some, I’m not really sure when it went live, but Justin Harder has graced the internet with a home for all of his notable work, seemingly from his entire career thus far. In addition, he’s indulged his fans with extra tid bits of info including process and styleframes for many of those projects as well. A wonderful insight into, dare I say it, one of the forefathers of contemporary motion graphic design. I’m sure that’s debatable, but at the very least, it’s true for me. Love him or hate him, it’s hard to deny that he paved the way for many things we now know of and admire with our industry. Rewind to 2002 to the ‘Lets Make Some Shapes‘ demo reel, watch, and tell me you aren’t still impressed by Justin’s ‘Sequence Design’. It happened then, and never again because of the painstaking care that it took to create animation like that. I know I’ll always look back at his 2003 reel, and remember the times early in my career, sitting at my computer at 2am, watching in overwhelmed amazement, and think, ‘those were the days’. Thanks for the little peak into your world, Justin.
