Melissa Joan Hart Builds Room for Second Baby

February 14th, 2008

Melissa Joan HartHer second baby is “kicking like a maniac” – and Melissa Joan Hart is getting ready for its arrival by making major changes around the house.

“We actually moved [2-year-old] Mason into a big boy room and left the nursery the way it is,” Hart recently says about rearranging her house to prepare for her second child with husband Mark Wilkerson. “It’s very neutral.”

And while Mason will soon have a new sibling, his parents are still doting on him, Hart said.

“We made him a big fish [themed] room,” she says. “It was his birthday a few weeks ago, so we got him a bed from Pottery Barn – and my stepmom came and put murals on the wall of fish, whales and turtles. It’s huge, and he’s got a fish tank now.”

With all the activity, one thing still hasn’t slowed down: her baby is still kicking. “[The baby’s] been way more active than our first son,” Wilkerson said. “Every day [the baby’s] doing aerobics in there.”

Lane Garrison Says Prison a Mind-Blowing Experience

February 14th, 2008

Lane GarrisonLane Garrison calls life behind bars an “eye-opening and harrowing” experience in a letter sent by the former Prison Break star from his current residence, the Donovan State Prison.

Being behind bars “is pure irony coming from the show and now living the real deal,” the actor, convicted of vehicular manslaughter after a car accident that killed a 17-year-old high school student, states in the message he sent to Access Hollywood. “It’s surreal and mind-blowing to say the least.”

In what was likely a truly surreal moment, Garrison, 27, describes watching the show’s season premiere with “a crowd of tattooed felons.”

Garrison, who was sentenced to 40 months, also says he hopes his story is seen as a cautionary tale about the perils of drinking and driving.

“I have much to say about the pain I’ve felt and seen inside of prison,” he writes. “It has been an eye-opening and harrowing experience.”

“Sharp Teeth” Promo Animations from Radium

February 14th, 2008

It seems more authors (or their publishers) are turning to the power of animation to promote their works. First it was former poet laureate Billy Collins, then Douglas Coupland, and now it’s Toby Barlow, who’s peddling his new werewolf novel set in LA, “Sharp Teeth.”

The book’s official website will feature all the animations, but right now there are a couple to share from Radium directors Limbert Fabian and Brady Baltezore.

The shorts are based on excerpts from Barlow’s book, but they’re not simply illustrative works. Although they’re created in wildly different styles, both shorts play with metaphorical devices and suggestive visuals to go beyond a simple say-cow-see-cow approach.

Avoid Surrealistic Nightmares with GPS

February 14th, 2008

Argentina-based Punga and Rodrigo Valdés of The Meastros teamed up on this surreal spot for Steren GPS systems. It’s a kooky but friendly romp styled in the vein of early animation master Max Fleischer.

Punga’s been mentioned here a few times, but this is my first time to run into The Maestros. They’re a Mexico City-based production company with some solid talent on their roster, including Punga, Fulltank and others. Worth a quick spin.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

February 14th, 2008

Look, everybody, it's the mentally-challenged yet awesomely augmented superhero Valentine's Girl! Yay! She's here to ward off loneliness and broken hearts with a barrage of nipples. Also she's wielding her, uh, trusty baton covered in tin-foil. I have no fucking clue but God bless her retarded heart. Thanks, Valentine's Girl! NOTE: These are actually NSFW shots of British TV personality Katie "Jordan" Price at a book-signing this morning for her third autobiography "Jordan: Pushed to the Limit." I had no idea her life required not one but three novels. Yet somehow none of them are part of Oprah's Book Club. What a travesty.
