Just Married!

Friday, February 15th, 2008

Oasis bad boy Liam Ghallagher and All Saints good girl Nicole Appleton tied the knot in a secret ceremony in London on Valentine's Day.

Bloody romantic!

The couple have been together nearly 8 years and have a 7 year old son together, Gene.

The ceremony was small and intimate, held at the Westminster Register Office.

Liam's brother, Noel, was not in attendance. He probably wasn't invited!

Movie Review: Rabid

Friday, February 15th, 2008

… the film raises some intelligent questions about the nature of violence, sexuality, and horror.
Just in time for Valentine’s Day, it’s David Cronenberg’s Rabid! This 1977 horror film was made in Montreal, Quebec, and had the support of the Canadian Film Development Corporation. Packed with Freudian imagery and a healthy dose of gore, Rabid is an intriguing film. Cronenberg is one of my favourite directors and I find his work…

Movie Review: Sweeney Todd – the Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Friday, February 15th, 2008

Beware the meat pies and heed the razors, lyrical slaughter is afoot!
Sweeney Todd as filmed by Tim Burton plays like the demented flip side to Moulin Rouge, sharing the stylised sets, the flashy zooms, the bigger-than-life acting, and the overwhelming melodrama. This is not a bad thing. The story: A barber takes revenge on the judge who sabotaged his marriage, locked him up, and took his daughter. He hooks up with a…

DVD Review: ER – The Complete Eighth Season

Friday, February 15th, 2008

Season eight of ER is among the series’ most powerful yet.
While ER can occasionally veer off into soap opera territory, the long-running series about the medical staff and patients of Chicago's fictional County General Hospital remains one of the best written shows on television today. One of the reasons ER has been able to stay on the cutting edge is the writers' and producers' ability to…

No matter what happens, today is a Valentines day, I still want to wish all the loved ones are together sharing love and smile and a tender kiss under the beautiful sky

Here I am in Albuquerque with my heart feeling sad, and my emotions are running through me like a wild river, tears come from the lake of my heart hurt my eyes. Life happens to you either you liked it or not, sometimes I feel you have to be so brave to stand in front of the World, and just hope that people will have a tender heart toward you. Right now I just walked from the set to My trailer, cold, but the evening brightness on the sky is just so beautiful in Albuquerque, so beautiful, it takes my breath away like a bralliant lover, nature is my gift, no matter what happens it always there to confort me give me wisdom and love, how lucky I am to have it and recognise its beauty and power. So beautiful here in Albuquerque, the desert the wild endless land, the stars and the moon so up high there quietly singing a Valentines song. Many many friends called me today but I can not talk because I am shooting, I want to thank all my friends and the people that I don't even know out there cared for me and send me love. Its a gift and I am lucky to have you. Thankful with all my heart to all of you and send my Valentines love smile to you, with my sweet sad heart.

zspace for ABC1

abc1.jpg
G’Day from Sydney, with news from my adopted home town of a major new project for Australia’s first channel ABC1, orchestrated by local moving image luminaries zspace. You can watch a montage of the idents here, or see some of the completed spots here.

Zspace fought off stiff competition to create a complete set of new idents for ABC1. The idea kick-starting zspace’s pitch was simply ‘one’ and how ABC1 (Or ‘Auntie’ as the broadcaster is endearingly known) represents everyone.

With 7 years of experience working with ABC1, Jean Christophe Danoy felt it was really time to push the boundaries of what they could achieve for their client. So zspace brought in the talents of their first choice of Australian animators and directors, as well producing a good number of idents in-house, to create a refreshingly diverse body of work.

Each ident is about a personality, be it Joe Public or an Australian TV ‘face’ and what they do in their day to day. So live-action footage directed by zspace was used as a base upon which to build animation illustrating the VOs. I particularly like the blue-collar characters, like ‘SES’ (State Emergency Service) by motionographer’s own Jon Gorman and ‘Farmer’ by Mighty Nice. The personalities have a relaxed Australian charm that’s really brought home in the animation treatments.

It’s great to see broadcasters like ABC1 embracing innovative motion-graphics like this. And more power to zspace for pitching heavily on concept as opposed to styleframes, freeing them and their assembled directors up to develop ideas and designs as production progressed.

For mograph thunder from down-under, look no further…

Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell to Replace Ledger in ‘Parnassus?’

Friday, February 15th, 2008

When it's all said and done, this whole Parnassus mess would probably fit nicely into a biopic on the life and times of director Terry Gilliam. When Heath Ledger passed away during production on the latest Gilliam flick, The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, we all wondered what would happen to the film. Would Gilliam be forced to dump another project (a la Don Quixote), or would someone step in to save the day. Early rumors suggested (and here's where life always comes full circle) that Johnny Depp (Gilliam's Quixote star) would fill in for Ledger and shoot his remaining scenes. Then there was word Gilliam may create a CGI Ledger to tape up the missing pieces.

Now, however, AICN claims they know exactly how it will go down, and that Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell will all fill in for Ledger in a weird sort of I'm Not There-esque tribute to the actor. Needless to say, I cannot wait to see what this looks like -- imagine watching half a film with Ledger, only to see it switch and be Depp, then Law and then Farrell (or some variation)? What will that look like? Either way, I'm sure Gilliam will probably open to his biggest box office take in years (fingers crossed), and the film could go down as something very very special. No official word on this one yet, but AICN seems to feel this one is locked and ready to roll. What do you think?
