Newlyweds Ashlee and Pete Wentz have confirmed that they are expecting their first child.

“While many have speculated about this, we wanted to wait until after the first trimester to officially confirm that we are expecting our first child,” they wrote on Wentz’s site, friendsorenemies.com. “This is truly the most joyous time in our lives and we are excited to share the happy news and start our family.”

After getting married in L.A. on May 17, the couple honeymooned in Turks and Caicos.

The bride, who has changed her name to Ashlee Wentz but will go by Ashlee Simpson-Wentz professionally, said after the wedding, “I would love to have a big family one day.”

Added her new husband: “A big soccer team or a band!”

George Clooney and his girlfriend Sarah Larson have split up after a year of dating, a source says.

The actor’s rep, Stan Rosenfield, would only say: “We do not comment on George’s personal life.”

The pair initially met in Las Vegas nearly four years ago, when Larson, a onetime Fear Factor winner, was a cocktail server at The Whiskey Bar. But it wasn’t until the pair met for the second time in June 2007 in Las Vegas that sparks flew.

Larson, 29, and Clooney, 47, made their public debut together at the Venice and Deauville film festivals last September. Later that month, the twosome were injured in a motorcycle accident.

Earlier this year, Larson accompanied Clooney to the Oscars – the first girlfriend ever to go with him to the event.

Though there was speculation that Clooney would end his longtime bachelorhood, in March the actor shot down rumors of an engagement.

Next up for Clooney is the Coen brothers movie Burn After Reading, co-starring Brad Pitt, due out in September.

Newly married Ashlee Simpson is changing her name to Ashlee Wentz in honor of her husband, Fall Out Boy Pete Wentz.

“I think that that’s something that a woman should do when they’re marrying a man,” she said. “It’s a tradition that I think is a great tradition.”

The singer, whose May 17 wedding featured an Alice in Wonderland-themed reception, says that privately she’ll go by Ashlee Wentz and professionally she’ll be Ashlee Simpson-Wentz.

Pete Wentz says he left the name change decision to his wife. “These decisions with Ashlee and her name are all completely up to Ashlee,” Wentz says. “I want her to do these kinds of things the way she wants to do them.”

Still, he admits, he was flattered. “Oh man, I was like upgrade me! You know what I’m saying? The Wentz family, our Christmas card just got upgraded!” he says. “It feels insane. It feels unreal.”

Her romance with Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo may have overshadowed her singing career of late, but Jessica Simpson is back with a new single, the first off her upcoming country album.

The lighthearted, upbeat “Come On Over,” airing on Jacksonville, Fla. radio station WQIK, features her breathy vocals over a steel guitar.

On the tune, she sings: “I need you now/ I need you bad/I need you baby looking just like that/Don’t pack a bag/Don’t make me wait/ I want to kiss that smile that’s on your face/I need you wrapped up in these arms/ I want you just the way you are/Come on over.”

Early feedback has been positive: in a poll on WQIK’s Web site, of the more than 6,600 people who listened to the track, 58 percent gave it a thumbs up.

Simpson’s record label says that she will be performing at fairs and festivals this summer in support of her country album, due out in September. Simpson’s father said last year that the album will go back to her Texas roots. “She’s a singer from top to bottom,” Joe Simpson said. “And everything in the music business, especially pop music, has moved away from singers. And I think country is the only pure, storytelling kind of genre left.”

Madonna’s dream of adopting David Banda from Malawi has come true.

The High Court in the Malawi capital Lilongwe granted the singer, 49, permanent adoption order for the 2-year-old toddler on Wednesday. In his one-hour ruling, Justice Andrew Nyirenda said he is satisfied that Madonna and her British filmmaker husband Guy Ritchie “are perfect parents” for the toddler.

“I have examined the two reports by the guardian and I am satisfied David has found a good home,” he said.

Nyirenda said by his ruling, David’s biological father, Yohane Banda, forfeits all rights to the toddler.

“I am glad this is over now. I am happy for David,” his father said Wednesday. Banda, 33, who ekes out a living growing maize, tomato and onions, said his family will meet and plan a celebration.

Malawian lawyer Alan Chinula said that Madonna was “over the moon” when he told her about the success of her adoption Wednesday.

“She told me she was anxiously waiting for the news,” he said. “She is relieved and thanks the people of Malawi for allowing them to be family.”

Ellen DeGeneres clearly has marriage on her mind.

The talk show host – who plans to wed girlfriend Portia de Rossi and has talked nuptials with recent guests John McCain and Jenna (Bush) Hager – was back to bride-talk with Will Smith.

On Monday’s episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, DeGeneres noted that Will and his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, have been married for 10 years, unheard of in Hollywood. “It’s like dog years when you’re married here,” she said. “That’s like 50 years, right?

“What I found is divorce just can’t be an option,” the actor explained. “It’s really that simple. And I think that’s the problem with L.A. – there are so many options. So a huge part of the success for [Jada] and I is that we just removed the other options.”

The secret to their success? “We’re like listen, we’re going to be together one way or the other so we might as well try to be happy,” he said.

DeGeneres also suggested that Smith consider politics for his next project – and join Barack Obama as his running mate.

“I do think about [running for office] sometimes,” Smith admitted. “Right up until that Monday after the movie opens and I have a 100-percent approval rating. No politician is ever going to have that!”

It was a who’s who of celebrities – and their babies – at Kingston Rossdale’s second birthday party.

Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale threw their son an animal-themed bash at their Studio City, Calif., house on Sunday – one day before his actual birthday. The fete drew 40 friends, including Nicole Richie, Joel Madden and daughter Harlow, as well as Victoria Beckham and son Cruz, and Christina Aguilera, husband Jordan Bratman and son Max.

The family’s backyard was outfitted with small safari animals and multicolored balloons. There was also a pony for the children to ride. And a big moon bouncer kept everyone – adults and their kids – entertained.

At one point, Rossdale and the birthday boy joined several of the younger guests in the moon bouncer, while a pregnant Stefani bonded with Richie’s daughter, an eyewitness says.

Victoria Beckham seemed to enjoy the party as well, kicking off her heels to play with her son, who sported a monkey costume. “She took her shoes off and walked around the backyard with bare feet,” the eyewitness reports, noting that Cruz especially loved the pony, riding it around the backyard several times.

The following day, Stefani and her husband celebrated their son’s birthday again – with a little quality time on a Malibu beach.

Kirsten Dunst is opening up about her stint at the Cirque Lodge Treatment Center in Utah earlier this year, saying that she sought help for depression, not for drug or alcohol abuse.

“I was struggling, and I had the opportunity to go somewhere and take care of myself,” Dunst, 26, tells E! Online. “I was fortunate to have the resources to do it. My friends and family thought it was a good idea, too.”

In February, Dunst checked into the same posh facility where Lindsay Lohan and Eva Mendes have been treated.

“She does drink and she does have wild nights, but that was never the root of her issues,” a source close to Dunst says. “She couldn’t control her depression.”

When Dunst entered rehab in February, another friend says that the actress had been feeling low for some time. “She’s been crying a lot lately, ” said the friend. “Everybody hits that bottom where you feel [so] scared that that one heavy night of partying can really wake you up. It’s good she’s getting herself help.”

As for why she decided to talk about her struggles now, Dunst tells E!, “Now that I’m feeling stronger, I was prepared to say something … Depression is pretty serious and should not be gossiped about.”

The Hogan family was involved in another car accident Sunday, when Hulk Hogan’s daughter Brooke’s car was hit and pushed into a concrete wall by a man witnesses said was speeding.

No injuries were reported to either Brooke Bollea, 20, her female passenger, or to the 19-year-old man in the car that hit Bollea’s on the Bayside Bridge in Clearwater, Fla., according to a release from the Florida Highway Patrol. No charges have been filed in the accident.

Bollea’s 2008 four-door Mercedes had $3,000 damage done to it, according to the release.

A rep for the Hogan family had no comment.

Bollea credited the use of seatbelts for keeping her and her passenger uninjured.

“I don’t know if you heard, but my friend and I got into a really bad car accident today ourselves . . . As I turned on my car I clicked my seatbelt. As we pulled out onto the road, I looked over and realized my friend didn’t have her seatbelt on. I reminded her to put it on and the minute she clicked it, a car crashed into us,” Boella wrote in a MySpace post. “It was a horrible car accident, one that most would be severely hurt in, but we had our seatbelts on and they kept us in tight.”

The friend, who calls herself lala on her Myspace page, posted the following: “..Brooke Hogans my hero, thank you for saving my life! Everyone wear your seat belts.”

Brooke made reference to the accident her brother Nick was in last August, which left his friend John Graziano critically injured. Nick Bollea, 17, was sentenced to eight months in jail earlier this month after pleading no contest to charges of felony reckless driving in connection to that crash.

Hulk Hogan (real name: Terry Bollea) and Brooke’s mom Linda were both spotted Sunday at the scene of Brooke’s accident.

The accident was first reported by the St. Petersburg Times.

Kim Kardashian’s got her own white party in the Hamptons.

Traditionally, Diddy’s famous Hamptons white party takes place at his house in East Hampton at the end of the summer, but last season he also presided over a season-opener at The White House, a sprawling nightclub in Hampton Bays.

But this year, Kim Kardashian, in a form-fitting white dress by Herve Leger, and boyfriend Reggie Bush, also in all white, headlined the event.

“White is actually one of my favorite colors,” Kardashian said while hanging out in the raised VIP section of the club. “I have a white car. I love white. When the opportunity came up to be in the Hamptons – I’d never been in the Hamptons before – and to host a white party at the White House, it just seemed right.”

Though Bush is said to be camera shy, at least twelve photographers and two video crews were snapping photos of the pair as they danced on the floor and hung out in the VIP section.

“I’m not doing interviews,” Bush said. But he let Kardashian speak for him.

“His training camp starts in a week in New Orleans and he just started his mini camp, so he has the next few days off before he buckles down,” she said.

What makes him a good boyfriend? “The fact that he came with me all the way to the Hamptons on his day off when all of his friends are in Las Vegas on their usual – you know, [getaway].”

As for the sparkling ring she was wearing, Kardashian said, “I’m about two months pregnant right now and we’re getting married on August 8th of 2008.”

Bush appeared stricken until she added, “It’s a joke.” But the possibility is still very real. When asked if she’d like to have kids one day and get married, Kardashian said, “Yes, of course. I’d love to get married.”

And then on cue, for photographers, she and Bush smooched on the lips.
