Kim Kardashian engagement rumors are a publicity stunt

January 4th, 2008

Kim Kardashian and her friends are creating rumors that Kim is engaged to generate publicity. Apparently Kim picked up a few tricks when she used to hang out with Paris Hilton, according to Page Six:
"Kim is trying to create attention in her life because nothing else is really going on with her," said our source. "The whole debate over her engagement is buzz, and that's what she wants. She's not engaged, but her friends are telling all their celeb weekly contacts that she is."
Kim also tried to get some press a few months ago by saying $50,000 worth of jewelry was stolen from her bag at the airport. However she never filed a police report and the authorities informed the media it was all a publicity stunt. Next thing you know we’re going to find out her ass is fake and she wears a prosthetic for the camera. God, that would suck. It’d be like when I was a kid and found out Santa Claus wasn’t real. Except I’d probably cry more and, this time, a bike won’t stop the tears. Unless it’s the kind with a squirt gun on the handlebar. Those are sweet!

DVD Review: Once

January 4th, 2008

Viable classic or just a flash in the pan?
Written by Caballero Oscuro Once was the little film with big exposure last year, garnering glowing praise during its theatrical run and a considerable marketing push for its DVD release. Now that the masses have easy access to view it on DVD, its true test comes as a viable classic or just a flash in the pan. Although seemingly advertised as a…

New Movies and Box Office Predictions: One Missed Call

January 4th, 2008

2008 starts with something of a whimper.
Say goodbye to 2007 and hello to 2008. It is January, the holiday festivities are done and it is time to get back to the grind. You know what that means. It means that for the next month we will be subjected to lower-tier films mixed with December Oscar-fodder as those films expand into more theaters. The result of this intermingling of qualities…

UPDATE: Britney Spears is now completely screwed in custody battle

January 4th, 2008
0104_britney_spears_legal_00.JPG Britney Spears meltdown last night will obviously cause permanent damage in her custody battle with Kevin Federline. Former prosecutor Susan Filan, and MSNBC’s senior legal analyst, says that Britney’s refusal to turn over her children to police was “a very serious no-no in the world of courts.” People reports:
As for the standoff that ensued, as well as, it has been assumed, arguments in front of the children by the parents, Filan said the courts are also likely to take a very dim view. She also said that this could pave the way for Federline to be in charge of determining all future decisions involving the boys.
Susan offered her opinion on the final outcome of Britney’s actions:
“The court may very well have to intervene and cut off visitation, which is tough for a court , because a court doesn't want to deprive a child from its mom. This is really emotional stuff."
Concluded Filan: "These kids are now, I think, directly being harmed by the mother who … is spiraling out of control. I think she's just about done."
She’s the senior legal analyst for MSNBC and Susan Filan is just now starting to think Britney Spears is a danger to her kids. Hmm, those are some keen observational skills. It only took her about a year to reach the most obvious conclusion in the history of family law. Someone get Susan Filan a cookie. She earned it today. UPDATE: Kevin Federline slipped into court under the radar and will testify in the emergency hearing that is currently in progress, according to TMZ.

DVD Review: Superbad – 2-Disc Unrated Extended Edition

January 4th, 2008

Superbad is a funny teen comedy with realistic situations and a holy grail of special features.
With multiple storylines, a funky theme song, and animated credits, Superbad would have made a good TV show. Imagine Freaks and Geeks with South Park crudeness. Writers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg have given their alter-egos complicated personalities that could provide material for several stories. Every week, I could see them navigating the…

From the Editor’s Desk: The Britney Biopic

January 4th, 2008

So I've been watching this whole Britney Spears drama unfold today, and it got me thinking about the kind of biopics we'll be seeing in 10-15 years; the sort of stuff that will be based on the fascinating lives people are living right now. I hate to be the one who says this -- and as much as she's a total trainwreck, I still hope she pulls through -- but are we really that far away from waking up in the morning to TMZ breaking the news of Britney Spears' unfortunate death? Yeah, you've got Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton -- two giant headaches; there's no denying that. But Spears is in a league of her own. She's right there. She's on the verge of leaving this planet ... and it's almost like the media want her to die in some absurd way because they'll have their story of the year.

And then after she dies, MSNBC will run non-stop coverage (though it's an election year, so Entertainment Tonight and Access Hollywood will win out in the end), interviewing the editor of In Touch Magazine 30 times throughout the day, asking them this same question: How come no one was there to help this girl out? And while the editor from In Touch Magazine talks, they'll show the same music video montage -- Britney in a school girl uniform, Britney in leather, Britney at the VMA awards. Larry King will bring on her mother. Then her father. And if he's lucky, he'll get a pregnant Jamie Lynn. The trifecta! You go Larry! The film sites (including Cinematical) will try to find a way to spin the story in a way that announces which jackass first nabs her life rights for a biopic, and that will be it. The end of Britney.

Until the day comes for a biopic. And we run through the names of a few up-and-comers trying to decide who should play Britney. I'll probably write the post, and say something like -- "I vote for Lohan, since she already knows how to sing and could probably pull off a believable Britney." And how ironic would it be if that performance is what nabs Lohan an Oscar nod? Nah ... too soon. Too soon. Maybe Jamie Lynn would play Britney, in a fitting tribute to the girl who taught her how to have stupid sex at 16. But you know what? It doesn't have to go there. Now is the time for her f**king family to drop whatever sh*t is stored in that warehouse they call an attic and get this girl some help. Because when and if it ever happens, I want Britney to star in her own biopic. And I want it to end with her smiling at the camera, with her middle finger in the air, as she goes ... "See, I survived. And f*ck you Perez Hilton!" (Only the MPAA will ask her to remove the word 'f*ck' in order to get the film down to a PG-13 rating. And we'll probably write a post about it.)

DVD Review: Rob & Big – The Complete Seasons 1 & 2 (Uncensored)

January 4th, 2008

Rob Dyrdek and Christopher “Big Black” Boykin are doin’ work in the Hollywood Hills.
I have to admit that when I watched the first few minutes of Rob & Big when it debuted on MTV in 2006, I thought, what the heck is this? Watching a 30-something professional skater named Rob Dyrdek and his 400-pound bodyguard, Christopher “Big Black” Boykin, didn’t seem like it would hold much interest for a 30-something…

UPDATE: Britney Spears wasn’t on drugs, just crazy

January 4th, 2008
0104_britney_spears_nodrugs_00.JPG Britney Spears’ blood test allegedly came back negative for substance abuse which police initially believed was the cause of Britney’s behavior. Life & Style reports:
“Her blood test just came back, and, thank God, it was clean. There are no traces of drugs or alcohol of any kind,” a source close to the Spears family tells Life & Style.
This information jives with a comment TMZ made earlier today:
We've been reporting for several months now that Britney doesn't have a drug or alcohol problem -- that her instability is mental, not chemical. Well placed sources tell us what happened last night is not rooted in drugs, and that of late, her mental state has deteriorated to the point that what happened at her home was not unexpected.
So, to the family member that said “Thank God, it was clean.” You’re right. Thank God Britney Spears only held her kid hostage because she’s batshit insane and not because of drugs. Phew, what a relief. I mean, if it were drugs, then this whole thing might be a real disaster or something. Now it’s just another anecdote the Spears’ clan will laugh about over Easter: “Hey, remember when Britney had a standoff with the police? Ha ha! God, she’s a stitch!” UPDATE: Michael Sands, a representative for Kevin Federline's lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan, just informed the media that Mark Kaplan feels it would be inappropriate to do any press today. Michael Sands said he couldn't comment on anything at this time. He also refused to confirm if the children are okay.

Britney on 72-Hour Mental Lockdown

January 4th, 2008

Britney spears- emsBritney Spears was placed on lockdown for a mental evaluation Friday after the pop star locked herself in a room with one of her children at her L.A. home and refused to hand him over to ex-husband Kevin Federline.

A source says it was the pop star’s court-appointed child monitor who called police. “She had already put Preston in the car when Britney locked herself in a room with Jayden,” says the source. “The cops came and got through the door and tied her down to a gurney.”

Spears, who according to police appeared to be “under the influence of an unknown substance,” was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where the source says she will be on a minimum of a 72-hour lock down for mental evaluation.

Spears, who has visitation rights with her two sons Preston, 2, and Jayden, 1, was scheduled to give the boys over to Federline at 7 p.m. Thursday.

According to police, officers responded around 8 p.m. to a call “about a custodial dispute regarding Britney Spears’s children,” says Los Angeles police Officer Jason Lee.

Nearly three hours later, police determined that a court order stated that the singer’s children, who were with Spears at the time, were supposed to be with Federline, and a transfer was arranged, according to Lee.

“While officers were on the scene, they observed Ms. Spears under the influence of an unknown substance,” Lee added.

LAPD called the incident an “ongoing investigation” and says, “for her own welfare, [Spears] was taken to the local hospital for treatment.”

Preston was taken to the hospital by Federline’s assistant, and Jayden was in the ambulance with the monitor, a source says, adding that the boys “won’t be back with [Spears] for a long time.” Federline took his sons home early Friday morning. Spears’s father Jaime remains at the hospital.

Meanwhile, Federline’s lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, is due in court at 8:30 a.m. to attempt to strip Spears of her visitation rights. Attorney Tara Scott from the law firm of Trope and Trope will represent Spears even though the firm has asked to withdraw as counsel.
